All stadiums in Qatar where the matches are being played are eco-friendly and their temperature will be controllable. Qatar is home for around three million people, so the legacy of the tournament has to be managed carefully. The FIFA World Cup 2022 will start at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor city of Qatar.

Al Bayt Stadium

The opening match and opening ceremony will take place at the Al Bayt Stadium. It is the 2nd largest stadium of the Qatar. It was built like a tent used by nomadic peoples in the Gulf region. The stadium was opened on 30 November 2021 for the FIFA Arab Cup after 7 years of construction. It will host 9 matches in the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup. These include three knock out matches. Its audience capacity is around sixty thousand.

Stadium 974 is named after the number of shipping containers used in the stadium’s construction and the Qatar’s international dialling code.
