It has been reported that the submersible which he was onboard had lost complete contact with its mother ship on Sunday. George Hamish Livingston Harding, who is popular everywhere by the name, Hamish Harding, was born in the Hammersmith area of London in the year 1964. He had his school education completed at The King’s School in the city of Gloucester. This school is one of the seven ‘King’s Schools’ which were established under the heritage of the 11th-century monastic school. It is a private coed school situated in South West England and after Harding graduated his high school, he went to Pembroke College in Cambridge, where he was able to receive his BA and MA degrees.

Hamish worked with an Antarctic VIP Tourism Company, known as ‘White Desert’ in 2017, where he was able to introduce the first regular service using a business jet to reach the Antarctic. As mentioned, Harding was onboard ‘Titan’, the submersible which was owned by the Oceangate Expeditions, when he was on his voyage to see the Titanic Wreckage from 1912 after the ship sank due to hitting an iceberg. Hamish had written on one of his last posts on social media that due to Newfoundland’s worst winters in almost 40 years, the RMS Titanic Mission, wherein he would be a mission specialist would be the first and also the last manned mission to the Titanic in 2023.

He set off on the trip on Sunday, 18th June 2023, on a boat from St John’s Canada. After this, he then boarded the vessel ‘Titan’ to reach the Titanic shipwreck which is located in the Atlantic Ocean at about 12,500 feet below the surface level, in the southeast of Newfoundland. It was later reported that the submarine had gone missing after an hour and 45 minutes into the fateful dive.

Following this, in 2021, Harding also dived to reach the deepest point of the Mariana Trench, also known as the Challenger Deep, in a two-man submarine and reached a depth of about 36,000 feet. There he was able to set two Guinness World Records, one for the longest duration at full ocean depth by a crewed vessel and another for the longest distance traversed at full ocean depth by a crewed vessel at the same time.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, on 09-11 July 2019, Harding teamed up with Terry Virts to complete the fastest circumnavigation of the Planet Earth via North and South Poles, in a time duration of 46 hours and 40 minutes. During his deepest dive into the Marianna Trench, he teamed up with Victor Vescovo on 05th March 2021 setting other world records. He had also supplied a customized jet Boeing 747 400 to transport 8 cheetahs from Namibia to India as part of the reintroduction of the cheetah in the Indian subcontinent project of the Indian Government and the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia.
