He has spent most of his early years growing up in Athens, situated in the state of Alabama. However, Mitch was raised by his parents, namely, Julia Odene (his mother) and Addison Mitchell (his father) McConnell 2nd, near the city of Sheffield. He is a Scots-Irish & an English descent. When he was 2 years old, the upper part of the left leg had been paralyzed by polio.
His family had moved to Georgia, where his father, Addison, had been stationed in Fort Gordon, as he had been a part of the army. He had attended the DuPont Manual High School, in Kentucky. Until 1970, he had worked as a legislative assistant in the office of Senator Marlow, where he had managed a legislative department. After this, he also tried to run for a state legislature seat but was disqualified.
He then started to work for a law firm, ‘Segal, Isenberg, Sales, and Stewart’ and continued to teach political science during the same time. Later in 1974, he flew back to Washington to be the Deputy Assistant Attorney General under the presidency of Gerald Ford, and in 1975, had served as the US Assistant Attorney General. He had been known to be pragmatic and moderate in his support of the Republican values but with time, he has shifted to more conservative views.
